The Porsche 928 is a luxury grand tourer produced by Porsche between 1978 and 1995. The 1988 Porsche 928 S4 combined the power, posture and handeling of a sports car with refinement, comfort and luxury equipment.

Porsche executives believed that a car with such characteristics would have greater market penetration than the 911, with a quiet interior and a peculiar dynamic behavior. However, the 1988 Porsche 928 S4 turned out to never be the substitute of the iconic 911.

The 928 was Porsche's first production model to power a V8 engine. The 928 S4 was introduced in the second half of 1986, and equipped an upgraded version of the V8 engine with 5 liters of capacity and 320 horsepower.
